I have had my tv for a year and a 4 inch blue shaded line has appeared on the left side of the screen and I called panasonic because I was still under warranty. they set up an appointment with a local repair shop. they sent him some parts to replace but this did not fix it. He called them and told them it did not work so now they're sending new parts again. but he thinks its the whole screen thats bad. so now this has taken a two weeks to fix it.

However the joys of having the big screen image, hooked up to your surround sound in the lounge are all too often shattered with the globe, often remaining that way for several months until you can afford a new one.

Digital projector lamps are a powerful light source used to transport the image from the projector to the screen. While very strong for their designed purpose, omitting light, the same cannot be said about their durability, a point of contention with many a disgruntled digital projector owner.

Although digital projector lamps are rated with an estimated life in hours, typically a lamp will peter out after 2,000 to 3,000 hours of use, many fall short of the indicated life. There are number of reasons for this. Like with all manufactured products there will be faults. While most projector lamps come with warranties ranging from 30 days to 6 months, research shows that many projector bulbs blow after the expiration of the warranty but well before the indicated lamp life. I own a Hitachi LCD projector and have experienced this problem first hand Not only did my lamp blow after only 1000 hours use but it also exploded inside the projector. After learning the hard way myself here are a few tips to avoiding similar problems, while maximizing the protection of, and hence, life of, your expensive projector lamp.

Always check and clean your air filter before use, especially if it has been stored. Dust build up in the air filter pad can cause lamp cooling problems resulting in overheating, lamp explosion and in some cases fire.

Never move your projector during use. When the lamp is hot it is most vulnerable. A slight jolt could easily cause the lamp to blow.

Always allow the lamp to fully complete its cooling cycle before turning your digital projector off.

Ask your dealer to clean the inside of your projector once a year to avoid excessive dust builds up.

Constant bit rate on the other hand, requires some calculation in order to maintain the quality, this means that if you are encoding a video scene which has a lot of movement and action you should increase the bit rate to preserve the original quality, that is if you're ripping from a high-quality source, the bit rate will need to be adjusted according to the codec that you are using for instance, if you are using DivX you may want to take the bit rate all the way to 1500 kbps in to pass mode, this setting will allow you to get high quality regardless of video movement. If the scene you are trying to transcode doesn't have much movement you can lower the bit rate and still keep a good quality.

Passes:

The amount of passes that you perform while transcoding your video will improve the quality of it, a single pass will allow the codec to gather as much data about the variations of movement in each frame of the media you're trying to encode in order to adjust the bit rate however, a single pass may not achieve impressive results. If you decide to do a two pass transcoding the video quality will improve as the codec has been able to gather as much data as possible and can now adjust the bit rate in a more efficient way. Multiple passes are great for improving the quality of a file but the entire process will take twice as long because obviously the software is performing multiple passes.

When you're ready to upgrade your television to something more modern, like a plasma screen or large rear projection flat panel, most of the time you research the cost of the TV itself. It turns out there's a lot of other costs involved that you'll want to budget for.

We recently purchased a 65" wide screen TV by Mitsubishi. It's a beautiful thing. Great screen, 1080p HDTV, it's even ready for 3D TV when it comes out. But compared to our previous wide screen TV which had it's own base, this one is lighter (only 75 lbs instead of 300 lbs) and has no base of it's own. It's too big to mount on the wall so it needs a stand to sit on. Hmmm. It was sitting on a nice glass stand at the Home Theater store, but guess what? That thing cost almost $800! Wow, that's a huge percentage of the TV's price and definitely makes the final cost a lot higher. Surely there are other options.

Yes, there are. In fact, nearly every TV in the store had a stand to go with it and you can mix and match them to your heart's content. Some are meant for smaller TVs because they're only 40" wide, so our 65" TV wouldn't fit. There were others that were large monstrous wood pieces with several storage drawers and doors, plenty of space to put movies, room accessories, speakers, whatever. But those ran almost $2000 each. I wanted cheaper, not more expensive.

We ended up getting a glass stand that had a shelf below for storing things, but don't use it for that. We already had built in storage so that wasn't an issue. The biggest issues were height and cost. Yes, height. We were used to having the TV a certain height off the floor and wanted to get a close as possible to what we had. Did you know that there is an optimum viewing height specific to each room based on your seat height? Get it wrong and your picture won't look perfect. The one we picked was about 6" shorter than before, but it's still within range of optimal viewing for our room.
